The long sliver of Roosevelt Island in the East River offers luxury residential buildings spectacular views of Manhattans upper east side. It is accessed by tram, subway and draw bridge from Manhattan and Queens. The north tip is graced by a working lighthouse to warn of vicious currents where the waters fork west into the East River and east to Hells Gate. Roosevelt Island is part of new york city much as Governors Island and a few other islands. It is a strip of land situated in the middle of the East river separating Manhattan and Queens.
